I suggest everyone should wait till the iLoL is released. When you have installed iLoL and you notice that the games begins too slow down after a while, then you can install smcFanControl. I think this is the purpose of boompje his post. Once you got both (iLoL + smcFanControl) you can begin to tweak it. Now it's pretty useless, unless you have other games installed.
I also play TF2 and never had much problems with the heating, so I am going to wait for iLoL!
edit - question: does smcFancontrol adjust Fan Speed automatically according to temp° ?

If you are really worried about your hardware, download istat pro for your dashboard or a similar application which indicates temperatures and fan speed. When your cpu is "boiling hot" and your fans are at 2000rpm use fancontrol and adjust the speed/temp.

All smcFancontrol does is let you set the minimum speed that your fans will go at. The lowest you can set them to is the default minimum set by apple. If your computer starts getting hotter, the fans will still spin up.

I recommand first to wait for the release of the iLoL client. Then, if the temperature of your machine is abnormally hot, install SMCFanControl to adjust the speed of fans.

i used to use smc fan control because sc2 used to bog down my system, but some tweaks and the cuda drivers fixed my issues. i benchmarked some of my usage with the old riot mac client and smc fan control.
there were no real fps changes. if it helps you it helps you, but i think people could find tweaks that will give them some added fps, like the cuda drivers if they apply to your machine.
i also switched to the google public dns server. as i noticed comcasts dns server would sometimes not be able to communicate with the riot server and i would get dropped from games randomly. (getting dropped randomly leads me to believe that comcast has problems somewhere in the pipe to riot, i'm positive it affected my ping as well as the disconnects)

When the game starts it only connects itself via a IP adress. URLs are only used on the launcher and the pvp-net thingy.

I've been playing around with the sliders, what are default preferences for Default?

The defaults set by apple are the minimum settings you can put the sliders to. All smcFancontrol does is let you increase the minimum speeds, and the fans will still automatically spin faster if your computer starts getting hot.

105 degrees is the max operating temperature for intel cpu processors. I think the mac self shuts down at that point.
