I'm not much of an IT expert let alone on the mac.
But what is Cider? What is Wine? Which one is better? What's a wrapper? (<-- all I can think of are sweets)
I tried googling but was flummoxed after several sentences. Looking for an idiot's guide here. XD

Wrapper - basically taking a program and "wrapping" it in other software so that it can run on a different operating system Wine - a wrapper for playing windows games on mac Cider - a wrapper for playing windows games on mac. Better than Wine, but owned by Transgaming
It's possible Riot blocked the Cider client due to legal issues with Transgaming. So now we're trying a Wine wrapper.
Hope that answers your questions.

Sweet thanks. So are all Mac games 'wrapped' up?

Not all, but most are since most games are made for pc's only. There are a few out there that ARE native (written to run on Mac instead of being wrapped) such as KotOR, Guitar Hero 3, or WoW, but since its such a hassle to write for both PC and Mac, most companies dont or didnt bother to write a whole game for about 5% of the market. Since Macs are beginning to gain popularity, I think that situation is going to change.
About wrappers, a good way to think about them is that they are being "translated" from Windows language to Mac language. There are bound to be errors in translation, as well as a reduced speed in performance.
Also, for LoL i think Cider is better.. something about Cider using a direct path to something, whereas Wine takes a bunch of intermediate steps causing a drop in performance...

So I guess its too much to hope for a native LoL client then.

That would be a whole different client, and Riot has enough stuff in the pipes (For the love of God, where is the twitch remake <.< ). To top it off, most people don't own macs, so their interest in mac gaming is really really low.

Well actually Riot has stated that they are currently in active development of a native Mac client, however other than that no information has been given as to what the status of that is. (they say it's classified)

(they say it's classified) they said they would make a new client. we don't know if it will be native or not and when they will start working on it.

So I guess its too much to hope for a native LoL client then. Think about this: - Cider is the only company that has the knowledge to make decent windows-mac ports when considering Games. - Riot stopped the Mac Beta, with TransGaming. Stating that it couldn't keep up in a technical matter of speaking. - Riot stated that they would be working on a new Mac client. - Add the facts, you won't release a worse application right? I'm 99% sure it'll be a Native Mac app.

XD Everything Velkorious said, if you want some further reading to get a better idea: - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedega_(software)Cedega is the Linux version of Cider. Although TransGaming stopped development on Cedega, it's almost identical to Cider (But for a different OS). - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software)You don't need to read everything of this, but you'll get the idea with just the introduciotn.

EDIT: nevermind on original question of this post; cptshiba answered it in the same post I'm referring to below.
Cptshiba- there is a Mac version of KotR Online?! I have been looking for this everywhere and have not seen it. Wal-Mart only has the "PC-DVD" version that specifically states it is only for Windows OS. Or, were you referring to the original KotOR that was released for both X-Box and PC (I didn't know that had a Mac version, either, but that's good to know that Lucas Arts actually did that!)?
